Netregistry would like to warn customers of the following email phishing scam currently going out to a lot of users worldwide:
"Phishing" means that a scammer is pretending to be a trustworthy entity requesting to supply sensitive information which can be used to gain unauthorised access to your account(s).
Please be aware, Netregistry will never request any of your login or any other sensitive information to be e-mailed back to us in plain text. Customers will only be asked to quote their login information in cases where the client explicitly requests changes to the account and/or requests sensitive information to be provided by phone or e-mail. Below is an example of the phishing e-mail received by users today:
From: Webmail [mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org] Sent: Friday, 7 December 2012 2:00 AM To: Subject: Update Your Account This message is from webmail Support and we are sending it to every Email User Owner for safety. we are having congestion's due to the anonymous registration of web mail accounts so we are shutting down some webmail accounts and your account was among those to be deleted. We are sending you this email so that you can verify and let us know if you still want to use this account. If you are still interested, please confirm your account by filling the space below. Email: Email Username: Email Password: Confirm Password: Date of Birth: Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his/her account after 48 Hours of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently. Thanks. webmail Support.
